3M half mask pre filter

3M half mask pre filter

Description

I have a 3m half mask, but as all of us I have limited supply of filters. So I decided to design a pre-filter to prolong their lifespan. And also make the mask look less industrial. Now this is just pre-filter, the original 3M filter is still doing the hard work. The pre-filter is just helping the filter not to get dirty so fast. Also seals on this type of attachment aren’t perfectly tight, so you always need an original main filter installed! Before installing pre filter, please check your seal! Install 603 adaprer, main original filter and dust cover on your mask. put it on your face, use your palms to cover holes in Dust filter cover completely. breathe in. you shouldnt be able to (dont sufocate yourself) if there is any leak, it means that you are not protected by original main filter! This is DYI device, not tested properly, not certified. 3M original parts are always preferable. They did a great job designing the whole filtration system. My design is to be used only when you have no other option, and when you accept the risks involved. After use consider PreFilter, and the rest of the mask contaminated. And handle it as such. Disinfect all parts regularly. Not the main original filter, that has to be changed. Washing the main original filter will reduce its filtering capabilities drastically. Design is optimized for use with 2 layers of cotton t-shirt fabric, which should capture about 70% of 1 micron particles, therefore lowering filter exposure 3 times. My source of info for materials and filtration: https://smartairfilters.com/en/blog/best-materials-make-diy-face-mask-virus/?rel=1 As a base for this design I used Dust filter cover from vyrobca Use petg or abs for this one, pla could break and render you vulnerable. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3982639 And 603 3M adapter also from vyrobca or you can use original 3M if available https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4215903 Also you will need an original p2/n95 or p3/n99 filter. The rest can be printed, or found at home. Place two sheets of fabric (2xcotton shirt piece, or similar thickness) on a flat surface. Put printed pre-filter body in the center, slot on the bottom side. Wrap the fabric around Fasten with pre-filter lock. Fit onto a Dust filter cover. You are done! It requires a bit of a force to fit it on, so I suggest you do it while your filters are not attached to your mask, to prevent damage to the connection. Depending on the fabric you use, you may try to scale PreFilterLock for better fit. If you wish to scale PreFilterBody you shoud watch out for uneven change of the gap between it and DustFilterCover. I strongly suggest that you also install exhaust filter so you don`t spread the infection. Either the original design by alphaa, well explained in link below, or my remix that makes it a bit tighter. I use additional unwoven cloth between mask and adapter for better seal. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4160375 Had to reduce supports heavily, specially for Exhaust objects and PreFilterBody. Use petg or abs, pla is weak and porous. Specially for Dust filter cover, it is crucial part for the seal, always check if it printed correctly. 100% infill. Last but not least Big respect to vyrobca and alphaa for creating such great and helpful designs. You should also check out designs from vyrobca that don`t need original filter. Wish you all good health, hope this helps.
