Beer Box Blocks

Beer Box Blocks

Description

(Will add more info as I have a chance, wanted to get something started) # Intro The basic goal of Beer Box Blocks are to make it easy to connect beer boxes together into a basic rigid structure (aka Block). Why would you want to do this? In my case, wall art! Inspired by the boxes of Martin House Brewing, I designed connects to allow me to connect the boxes together in a non-destructive, expandable way. Once that was done, I designed wall mounts that hold the Beer Box Block with minimalist 'clips' which are nearly invisible. They could probably be more robust, but they do the job well so far. # Assembly To make my 5 x 3 block with my boxes, I printed the following: - (16x) Cross Connectors - 1.4in - (4x) Vertical Connectors To assemble, you slide the clip along the sides of the box tops and bottoms. - Cross-Connector - On one side, 'pinch' the Top Flap of one box with the Bottom Flap of another with the clip - Align the opposite top and bottom box, and 'pinch' the Top Flap and bottom Flap with the other side of the cross-connector in a similar way to the first side - Vertical Connector - 'Pinch' the Top Flap of one box with the Bottom Flap of another with the clip # To Mount - Once you have created a Block (grid of boxes), you can mount it to the wall if you wish! - To mount my 15 box Block I only needed 2 mounts (1 each A + B - you'll need to make them in pairs) - The clip mounts are screwed into the wall an appropriate distance apart, so that the portions holding the screw are hidden behind the boxes. - You actually have a lot of tolerance, but if you want it to be minimally visible you have to measure and plan well! - NOTE: Be careful when tightening the screws - if you over tighten you could cause the print to try and crack on the layer lines. ## How far apart to mount the mounts? - For my 5 x 3 Block using the boxes I had, I determined my mounts should be positioned so the screw holes were 9 7/8" apart. - Note: No consideration was taken into convenience for this part, so sorry about that - Screw holes are 5/8" from the inner edge of the 'clip mouth', and the edge of the clip connectors for a set of 3 boxes wide was 11 1/8" apart. So (11 1/8" - 5/8"x2 = 9 7/8")
