COVID-19 emergency: Decathlon diving masks become C-PAP for respiratory ventilation
Description
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (C-PAP) is a method of respiratory ventilation used in sub-intensive care, of which there is a shortage in this emergency COVID-19. In fact it is a mask connected to a machine through a tube, which introduces slightly compressed air ensuring better breathing by the patient. ISINNOVA designers studied the sub Decathlon mask to understand how to modify it and integrate it with a new component of their invention: the Charlotte valve. Printed in 3d, it has been tested at the Civil Hospital of Brescia on patients in need and has proven to work. "The idea is aimed at health facilities and wants to help create an emergency mask in the event of a full-blown difficult situation in finding official health supplies" they specify. The use by the patient, in fact, is subject to acceptance of the use of an uncertified biomedical device, through a signed declaration. To prevent speculation on the price of the component, the Charlotte valve has been patented, but the file for its realization is freely available to all makers who want to print it. "We clarify that our initiative is totally non-profit, we will not perceive rights on the idea of the fitting or on the sale of Decathlon masks."
