KayPro 16 Floppy Bay Cover

KayPro 16 Floppy Bay Cover

Description

As an enthusiast of vintage computers, I love being able to 3D print functional parts to improve or restore them in some way. In this case I have a KayPro 16 "portable" computer. Because this machine is not going to have a floppy controller in it my original plan was to install a floppy drive and just not have it plugged in. But for the life of me I can't seem to get any regular 5.25" floppy drive to fit properly. They are all just slightly too big and I'm not about to go grinding on any of my old hardware. Finally I gave up and decided that maybe my mediocre 3D modeling skills would work in TinkerCAD. I had previously used it to remix some expansion slot covers and just make them a little more robust when printing PLA. So I measured everything out, made a super thin rectangle, that was only 2 layers thick to test fit. On the second try I got it right, built the rest in TinkerCAD and it fits about as perfect as I could want it.
