40mm to popular respirator adapter V2
Description
IMPORTANT: Read this, before you even consider downloading: THIS ITEM IS DESIGNED FOR THEORETICAL PURPOSE ONLY. IF YOU CHOOSE TO ATTEMPT TO INSTALL THIS IN A DEVICE AND USE THIS FOR A PRACTICAL APPLICATION, DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!! RESPIRATORS AND FILTERS ARE PROTECTIVE SAFTEY EQUIPMENT. TAMPERING WITH THE DESIGN AND FUNCTIONS OF ONE, COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE DEVICE, DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY. All printers and materials produce differing results. Consider that: A print that’s too tight, could damage/crack your device, rendering it useless. A print that’s too loose, could leave the integrity of your device compromised, rendering it useless. If in doubt, don’t. Yes, I produced an item that proved to install perfectly and be leak tight. Which meant I was happy to use it in a practical application. But it was my risk to take. Your results may well differ considerably, and as such, I urge you to exercise extreme caution if your are considering attempting to modify a respirator. THE ITEM: This adapter allows fitment of a 40mm threaded filter cartridge onto a Popular brand of Respirator, which i’ll leave you to identify if you own or not. It allows for utilization of the gasket that comes with the respirator. PRINT SETTINGS: Go standard 0.2mm layers on a 0.4 nozzle. As this is a functional part I suggest printing with 5 walls and 4 tops and bottoms. With a 20% gyroid infill. A concentric support structure is essential, enable everywhere even on the print. Make it 1% density with an x/y distance of no more than 0.6 from the print (this is important to ensure good support of the securing slots check after slicing to ensure the slots are supported) A 5mm Brim is advisable. Print on the hotter side if you can, to ensure excellent layer adhesion. Keep you bed temp at 50. The supports might be a little tricky to remove, especially from around the thread but digging it out with a pair of tweezers carefully should result in no need for post print clean up. You may also wish to print the "Plug" for the disused hole (or a second adapter to run 2 filters) Please note when fitting, that one of the 3 slots is slightly smaller than the other 2, this is the one to line up with the smallest tab on the mask/respirator The only additional gasket that may be required would be for the 40mm thread side, here I would suggest a suitable plumbing rubber seal be selected of around 2-3mm thick to fit around the base of the filters male thread (hole size approx 39mm) I've worked hard on this model to try and ensure good thread accuracy and tab fitment, but i am by no means a professional in designing, 3d printing or respirator and filter science. So i I’d advise you re-read my opening statement again. Thanks and happy printing.
