Ventilator mouthpiece valve

Ventilator mouthpiece valve

Description

This is a mouthpiece valve for use with an emergency COVID-19 ventilator created for http://ventilatorcrowd.org . This is needed if a Bag-Valve-Mask style ventilator is to be remote mounted from the patient's face with a pipe. It is intended to be attached to the mouth tube. Its purpose is to act as a non-return valve to allow air from the bag to go into the lungs, and the exhaled air is directed to the side port - this should probably have a filter on it. It uses a thin silicone rubber diaphragm, (in the prototype I used a piece of nitrile examination glove) retained by the ring, to use the pressure from the bag to hold the exhaust valve shut. This then opens when the pressure from the bag is released. A small disc valve is used to prevent back-flow into the bag. Please take it and remix it to suit your application. This is an initial prototype, untested and not approved. If you use it, you need to take responsibility for checking it works and doesn't cause any problems. (The photos are of the earlier version) I haven't yet explored what is the best material to use to get approval, and what adhesives to join the parts together with. I've designed it to be printed without support - there are a couple of overhangs but with the right settings these should still print ok. It was created with the academic version of Autocad Inventor - I've included the model files, but note they'll be academic watermarked if used commercially.
