Compost Tumbler Made from 5-gallon Buckets
Description
Make a compact rotary-type tumbling compost bin using some readily available parts from your local big-box hardware store and a couple of 5-gallon buckets. I've included all the necessary hardware to make a tumbling compost bin using 5-gallon buckets and 3/4" steel tubing. I've included the clamps which attach the tubing to the bucket as well as a set of bearings. I've also included some screens which you can mount in various places around the bucket to provide aeration and drainage. I've designed these such that you can use the pieces for multiple purposes. The end stops can support the bearing or help hold the bucket in place. You can add multiple buckets in series and support the tubing in multiple places. The bearings are designed to be used as both end-bearings as well as inner support for longer rods as they are a through-design. You'll need a bunch of 3mm melt-in thread inserts and M3x15mm screws to hold the whole thing together. You can attach the tumbler to whatever homemade rack you'd like. I welded up one out of some scrap tubing I had from other projects. It should work well, too, with one made from wood.
