E3D Chimera Dual Fan Anet Rail Mount with BLTouch
Description
This is a mounting system for the E3D chimera dual extrusion hot end for the Anet A8 style X rails. I've tried a few designs that split the airflow from a single part cooling fan into two, but found this produces suboptimal airflow for both nozzles, leading to print curling and catching on the nozzles. This design makes use of two paired radial fans to chuck air out at the part and stop this. The right fan mount also has a mounting point for a BLTouch Z probe. If you use this, the offsets compared to the leftmost nozzle are X36, Y-28.5, Z-2.80. For the hotend fan, you can use the 30mm one that ships with the hotend. However I'm using a 40mm noctua one for better cooling and acoustics - this can easily be adapted with a 30mm-40mm fan adapter found on here! As I'm using a RAMPS 1.4 board in EEB config, it's necessary to add an extra fan pin to the Marlin firmware and make / buy a fan extender board. I can share my schematics for this if needs be. Print everything in PETG if you have it as this is better for temperature resistance. The two fan mounts need slightly longer screws to mount into the bearings if you have them, or you can superglue them to the backplane using the screws as index pins like i did. Use M3 screws and nuts to mount the fans. Need supports from buildplate for the fan ducts only.
