Grinder - double gear, dual drive

Grinder - double gear, dual drive

Description

Remixed from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:978270 by rmcht This is my solution to the problems I've had with the original design, specifically in the drive mechanism. I redesigned the gears and shafts and made them separate. The gears are now mortised over the shafts, making shearing failures much less likely. I've also widened the gears a little and added a second set to transmit more force, making turning easier. The crank handle is now recessed into the gear, creating more contact between it and the gear in the direction of turning, which again transmits the force better, and the handle is longer, too. I added a thumb-turn because I often moved it by the gear rather than by the handle. Altogether, it's easier and smoother to operate and less likely to fail. You'll need to print the small gear twice. This uses the original body and rollers so you can print only the gears, shafts, and handle to upgrade. Assembly requires 5 M3 screws (4 without the crank). I countersank the screw holes in the gears but flat screws should work just as well. UPDATE after using this version for some time the only gripe I have left is that the crank is useless, at least for me. The thumbturn, though, is very convenient, so I've added an .stl for a gear with a thumbturn but without any holes for the crank.
