4-Stroke engine with working valves
Description
I designed this simple engine to be used as an teaching example for how a 4-stroke engine works. It has working pistons, timing gears and valves and requires no extra parts other than what you will print. To assemble the model you need to print. 1x Crank Case Lower 1x Crank Case Upper 1x Crank Shaft 2x Piston Lower 2x Piston Upper 2x Piston Head Female 2x Piston Head Male 4x Timing Gear 2x Plugs 2x Cylinder Block 2x Cylinder Head 2x Cam Shaft 2x Cam Cover 4x Valve Spring (Print these as high a resolution as possible for you printer) 4x Valve (Print these as high a resolution as possible for you printer) The whole model snaps together but I have found it is worth glueing some components otherwise it can fall apart when being turned, for my assembly I only glued the lower and upper pistons together around the crank shaft. To assemble the model: 1. Glue the upper and lower pistons around the two inner lugs of the crank shaft. 2. Snap the male and female piston heads together around the top of piston uppers. 3. Lay the crank shaft with pistons attached into crank case lower and snap the crank case upper over this to enclose it. Make sure to push the piston heads through the two piston recesses in crank case upper. 4. Lay the first two timing gears into the recess on crank case upper. 5. Press fit the cylinder block into crank case upper, enclosing the timing gears with the pistons inside the cylinder blocks. 6. Fit the remaining timing gears into the slots in the side of the cylinder blocks and use the plugs to hold into place. 7. Push the valve springs into the recesses within the cylinder head and attach in place by press fitting the valves to the end of the valve springs. 8. Press fit the cylinder head to the top of the cylinder block. 9. Lay the cam shaft into the cylinder head and fit in place using the cam cover.
