Cosplay mask sew-in eyepiece

Cosplay mask sew-in eyepiece

Description

Hey All, here's my design for a replaceable lens insert that can be used for any cosplay mask or costume. Initially these were designed as a direct replacement for the plastic sew-in lenses shown in DieselPunk.ro's Plague Doctor mask, but they can also be used for any custom design you are working on. Also note that these can be added to masks that have already been built (just remove the old lens and sew in this upgrade). There are a couple different options depending on the look you want and thickness of your leather, so hopefully you find these designs useful. Please note that these are designed so that the leather can sit in the groove behind the bezel, which is why there are multiple versions of the front piece (they only differ in the thickness of this groove, everything else is the same). Files included:

Eye Back.stl - This is the nut portion that holds the lenses in place and will fit any version of the front piece.

Eye Front - Flat.stl - This is a direct replacement for the plastic lens that gets sewn in behind the leather. There is no bezel and therefore no supports will be necessary to print successfully.

Eye Front - <xx>mm.stl - These designs are essentially the same, but allow for different thicknesses of leather (file name corresponds to max leather thickness for that design). Supports will be necessary to print these successfully.

These inserts are designed to use 46mm diameter lenses, so use what you like (clear/colored plastic, cut-down sunglasses, etc). Print Settings:

Plastic used: PLA

Layer height: 0.1mm (to help with thread definition)

Infill: 100% (there's not a whole lot of infill with these so you can set infill to 0, but 100% ensures that the front bezel is solid plastic if you want to sand/carve/shape the bezel in any way)

Buildplate adhesion: Skirt

Supports (where used):

Placement: Touching buildplate

Pattern: Concentric (best option since these are round)

Density: 15% (give or take. You want to make sure there are at least 3 support rings - outside edge, inside edge, and somewhere in the middle)

Support roof: Disabled. No roof makes it easier to remove the supports, and the supported face is the part that gets sewn against the leather so it will never be seen.
