Self Haircut Tapering Guide
Description
A month into this statewide quarantine, I tried to give myself a haircut. I remember my barber used a long comb as a guide to blend the area between the short crop and the longer cut. It was impossible for me to keep the comb and the hair trimmer in alignment, especially at the back of my head. This attachment guides the trimmer like a comb but stays attached to the trimmer. No, you will not get a professional looking haircut. You will get tactile feedback of the position of the blade as you move it upward and away from your skin. The tracks will keep the trimmer moving in a consistent direction. This tapering guide is designed for Wahl Trimmers that are 41mm (about 1-5/8") wide at the front edge. If you use this design, please leave a comment regarding your experience. Let me know if it works or how it can be improved. Usage: - Cut your hair evenly all around with the long guide that comes with the trimmer. I prefer 10mm (No.3) - Cut the lower half (below top of ear) with the short guide. I prefer 3mm (No.1) - Use a version of this design that matches your short guide. - Start each stroke with the blade in the short area. - As you move the hair trimmer upward, you can feel the tracks on your skin. - If you want the taper to be strictly vertical, keep the tracks in contact at the same place on your skin. - If you want the transition to curve inward, the point of contact should also move inward and upward as you move the trimmer. - Practice on the side where you can still see in the mirror before doing the back of your head. - Demonstrations are here: https://youtu.be/umUmcNQVCxA - And here: https://youtu.be/o3YFzssTTa8 Assembly: - Print a version of this design that matches your preferred short guide. - The blade assembly is designed to snap off the trimmer with the slightest torque. Use electrical tape to ensure the blade stays on. - Insert the hair trimmer downward into the groove of the attachment. - Then lower the back of the hair trimmer blade into the lock. - Squeeze the sides of the lock to release when finished. Suggested Print Settings in Cura: - Infill Pattern = Gyroid. - Support Type = Touch Build Plate. - Support Density = about 10 - 15%. - Support Pattern = Lines - Support Wall Thickness = 1 - To remove support material cleanly, insert a scraper into the gap between the tracks and the support. Then rock the scraper back and forth until you hear support material snap off.
