Meade LXD 75/55 Repair Parts

Description

The Meade LXD 55/75 mounts have a problem with the declination housing breaking. The screws break the mounts, and the housing rattles around loose on the mount. It's an easy repair. Use pliers or a dremel to remove all 4 screw pockets. Sand it flat with 320 grit sand paper. In the photo I have removed only the bottom two to show before and after examples. Print these new pockets (2 for each housing) and sand the large flat side flat with 320 grit (to help with glueing). You want to make sure the holes line up correctly after gluing, so screw the pockets down FIRST to the gearbox, and test fit. The screws are imperial size 4-40 (not metric oddly enough) but 3mm computer screws may also work. Then apply a little glue to the new pocket (still attached to the mount) and the half of the housing. Superglue works great. Press the half of the housing into place and wait until the glue sets enough that it won't fall off. Make sure the housings are not rubbing the gears before the glue sets! Once the glue is cured (wait at least 4 to 5 hours) go ahead and attach the other half of the housing and let it set overnight. If printing in ABS (recommended) scale up to 103% to account for ABS shrinkage. Also included is the Azimuth adjusting knob. The aluminum adjusters bend or break if hit hard enough. Print this at 103% if using ABS, and press it on to a 35mm long 8mm x 1.25 socket cap bolt. Be sure to line up the hexagon in the cap before pressing it in place. Total cost $1.25 including the bolts.
