Marble track - Tautochrone curve

Marble track - Tautochrone curve

Description

This is a marble track with two identical tracks side by side. These tracks follow a specific curve, called Tautochrone curve (different from a circle or ellipse). This curve is "the curve for which the time taken by an object sliding without friction in uniform gravity to its lowest point is independent of its starting point on the curve." (Tautochrone curve Wikipedias page) The model its designed to visualize this special property of a Tautochrone curve, by letting both of the marble fall at the same time from different positions along the curve, and watching them reach the bottom at the same time! About printing and using this model: 1. Its designed so it needs no supports. 2. The smaller the layer height, the better it will work (as the curve will have more detail and it will be closer to a real tautochrone). 3. It works for common marbles (16mm diameter). https://youtu.be/m1iNnWqxr1M
