Fully 3D printed StrandBeest (Theo Jansen Mechanism)
Description
Fully 3D printed StrandBeest (Theo Jansen Mechanism) Theo Jansen's mechanism's movement is very interesting. Many designers have made and posted their own versions but it seems all of them require rods, bolts and nuts. Well, they are easy to purchase but it's not recommended to go to local stores in this quarantine period. So I decided to make my own version of the mechanism, with all movable joints printable. I did quite a few trials and errors on the joints' dimensions. For example, the joints between the links should be a clearance fit, while the stoppers (just as nuts) should be tighter, to avoid the pins (bolts) to get loosen. I also designed the preliminary center frame to mount the motors - each motor controls one side. This is the first stage of my project. I only mounted one motor and it could struggle to move in circle. The full idea was to build a remote control circuit so that this Strandbeest can be controlled moving forward, backward and making turns, just like a remote controlled car! All parts are printable. Some parts may need you to use a file to expand the holes, it's still generally easy to assemble.
