Airlift pump for pond

Airlift pump for pond

Description

For my pond I needed a pump system that can move large amounts of water and I needed to put some extra oxygen into the water. I decided that it would be best to combine that into one system with only one moving component. You want these systems to be ‘maintenance free’ and as energy efficient as possible. The system works by adding air to the water approximately 1 meter below the surface of the water. This changes the density of the liquid in this part of the pipe and will cause the level to rise. Gravity will take care of the return of the liquid through another pipe. To put the air in the water at 1 meter below the surface, you will need an air pump that can deliver 10 to 20 l/min at 100 Kilopascal (14,5 PSI) for each pipe.
