NEMA-17 Planetary Gear Actuator
Description
This is a 2 stage compound planetary gearbox for NEMA-17 motors, intended for robotics. I plan to build a robot arm, inspired by LoboCNC's robot arm: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3327968 I designed this actuator myself, although it heavily borrows its design from the one in the robot arm. There are grooves cut into the ring gears where you have to insert 3mm stainless steel balls. They are available at bicycle repair shops where I live. Online stores will also deliver. https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/p221112/3mm-Diameter-Grade-100-AISI-316-Stainless-Steel-Ball-Bearings/product_info.html This is the first google search that came up! The bearings hold the 2 ring gears in place. It is possible to pop the steel balls out due to the included clearances. Just need some elbow grease!
