Arris SB8200 CM8200 60mm Fan Mount

Arris SB8200 CM8200 60mm Fan Mount

Description

It's fairly common that the SB8200 and CM8200 run a bit hot. I found that it would require a reboot every few days without any kind of forced airflow. I previously mounted a fan with some quick ties and that worked for years but looked ugly. I finally decided to make a mount that could hold the 60mm fan and still look nice. This holds a standard 60mm computer/CPU fan. These fans are 60x60x10mm and usually run at 12V. These are variable speed fans and can run at a lower DC voltage. I've found that 5V makes this fan run quiet enough to not be a nuisance and 5V power supplies are easy to find. I used an old cell phone charger and wired it directly to the fan. I did not connect the yellow/fan speed wire as that is not needed. There is a slot for the fan cable on the side. I believe all 60mm fans place the cables near the same location. The housing is a press fit into the modem. Insert the fan so that the output faces the modem. There should only be one way to insert the fan properly. Press into the modem on the side WITHOUT the screw post mounts (left side if you are looking at the front panel). There is also a variant for 80mm fans which need to be installed at a 45 degree angle. The corners will stick out. I have not tested this with any 80mm fans, so the depth is wrong, let me know. Additionally, there is a version that should fit a 60x60x25mm fan, but I have not tested it.
