Quick Mask (Vase mode)

Quick Mask (Vase mode)

Description

This mask was designed for quick printing so that it is easy to make and share with anyone in need in your community. It is not intended for health care professionals and if worn for a long time is likely to cause discomfort. The mask is simple to construct only requiring an appropriately sized piece of fabric (~10cm diameter circle) and some elastic. Holes need to be stabbed in the flanges on the retainer for the elastic and it may be a good idea to glue the fabric to the retainer and then to the mask. For some guidance on material choices this paper I wrote may be helpful: https://www.preprints.org/manuscript/202006.0132/v1 I have been using pieces of a H13/H14 bag type filter. For thicker materials the retainer may need to be scaled up slightly. It is most comfortable to print this mask out of polypropylene but is quite hard to get right, experimentation being required with the layer height and speed to get the layers to adhere and not collapse. Otherwise it can be printed from PETG but is less comfortable and less durable. Update: I have added a gcode and 3mf file for printing it with polypropylene. It is susceptible to fail on the steep overhang at the end of the nose, I found this was minimised with slower printing speed as well as extra cooling from some fans I put on the print bed, if you have a printer with a better part cooling fan that might be enough. I will add a version with slightly less steep overhangs at a later date.
