XLR Helping Hands Soldering Jig Remix
Description
3D printing noob here. I found this Soldering Helping Hands remix: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3709969 I remixed it in Tinkercad to a dual cable and connector holder since the majority of the cables I solder are stereo pairs. Follow n6sxb's "Post Printing" tips regarding some light sanding if needed. A calibrated printer will yield perfect fitting parts. . Additional items you will need: 2x 1/4-20 x 6" bolts 2x 1/4-20 nuts 2x 1/4" washers A bunch of: #64 rubber bands. Bolt the plates together with the rails as a spacer. Dont over-tighten. If you print in PLA, make sure you're not clamping onto any metal contacts you are soldering, it will melt. I've read on some posts that when printed with ABS, PETG or Nylon, it can withstand the temps. I haven't gotten around to any other filament other than PLA to test it. To be safe, use an old female XLR insert to hold the male connector you're soldering (last photo). I got lazy and would've liked to add some contrasting "Dont Forget the Boot" text on the rails. In the meantime, I just did it with a label maker.
