FedEx Box/Wilson Display Stand - 3 Color Inlay

FedEx Box/Wilson Display Stand - 3 Color Inlay

Description

I'm a huge fan of the movie Cast Away, and I recently came back to work at the office, but my office mates have not been cleared to return. So to keep from going crazy, I wanted to print an office companion. Thankfully Babelibue had already designed Wilson, so I decided to create the other iconic item from the movie... the FedEx package, as a display stand. I designed it to use the Multi Color Inlay method that CHEP showed off a few months ago - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Sla-vIsvh4 This model is designed to be printed with a .4 mm nozzle and a .2 layer height. There are 3 separate files to load into your slicer. They all have a .4 mm wide by .2 mm tall square that is used as a registration mark. Just load all 3 into your slicer, and they should all land in perfect placement. Then hide 2 of the items, create a gcode file, and repeat for the other two items individually. You should then have 3 separate gcode files, one of the Fed, one of the Ex, and the last being the box itself. You can refer to CHEP's video for visual reference. The other important MUST, is you need to enable Z hop, Lift Z, Retraction Vertical Lift, or whatever your slicer calls it, to at least .6 mm. This will allow the nozzle to hop around the already printed layers and not ruin the print during each retraction. Start by printing either the Fed, or the Ex and once finished, remove the skirt, if used, and the small registration box. Swap your filament and print the other of the base color layers. Again, remove the excess materials, and finally print the box. Once it is finished you'll have a 3 color print with a smooth bed surface on it!
