Small Shooting Board

Small Shooting Board

Description

I. What is a shooting board? A shooting board is an useful tool in woodworking. It is used in combination with a plane to precisely plan small pieces of wood to a certain angle, most common are 90° and 45°. The plane lies flat the side, cutting the wood against the fence of the shooting board to minimize tear-out. Browse Wikipedia for further information. II. Properties of the model The model provided is intended for the use with a very small plane and small pieces of wood. The fence has a hight of 15 mm (0.59 in), over-all size is 100 mm x 100 mm (3.94 in x 3.94 in), 45° and 90° angles. The top side of the fence has been left blank to make it easier to clamp the board down. Two holes allow to store the board on a wall if needed. Currently three versions are available: a right-handed version, a left-hand version and an unmarked (right-handed) version. The right-handed and left-handed versions include two arrows indicating working direction. The unmarked version does not have the arrows in case they interfere with the plane. Unfortunately my original models got damaged. Therefore I can neither provide an unmarked left-handed version nor upload the .FCStd files yet. During the first uses you may notice that the plane removes some of the plastic material depending on the plane's blade's depth. Make the walls thick enough. After printing you may check if every surface is flat (sometimes the printer leaves bumps which could decrease precision). III. Caution I am not a professional designer so I cannot guarantee that the design is perfect. Also a plane and woodworking in general can be very dangerous. Be careful, print and use at your own risk.
