2020 Extrusion Magnetic Panel Latch

2020 Extrusion Magnetic Panel Latch

Description

I designed this latch for a 2020 extrusion enclosure I've built for my printer. Other options I came across didn't provide enough clearance for my .220" thick panels. I’ve uploaded both the STL and STEP file in case you want to remix it. I've designed this so that one magnet is embedded within the print while the other sits in the recessed hole and is held captive by the panel itself. To embed the magnet, you'll want to slice the model and use the preview to determine the layer in which the cavity is enclosed. In your slicer, you'll then set your print to pause on the layer just before this one so that you can place the magnet. When doing this, be sure to use a brass nozzle or other non-magnetic nozzle. Additionally, verify that the magnet is recessed enough to avoid collision with the print nozzle—otherwise you'll likely damage your print and/or nozzle. Other hardware used: 2x ⌀12mm x 3mm thick neodymium magnetic disks 4x M3 screws (length determined by your needs) 2x M3 nuts 2x M3 t-slot nuts 4x M3 washers (optional, but helpful to distribute any potential strain on panel or latch)
