Simple 2.25kg Hanging Reel Holder - Low Friction
Description
This is an inexpensive hanging reel holder, suitable for larger 2.25kg reels that also works very well with standard 1kg reels. It's designed to be wall mounted or ceiling mounted using four drywall screws or decking screws. Those screws are generally sufficient to support a 2.25kg reel when screwed into drywall as long as the screws are driven all the way in but not overly torqued to drill out the brittle drywall. For a more secure installation in drywall, screw into a wooden stud or use deep threaded screw-in plastic anchors in the drywall and use the provided screws to mount the reel holder. The reel hub rotating on the 3D printed dowel provides very little friction, so it will work well for feeding stretchy flexible TPU filament if the reel holder is mounted above the 3D printer. The reel weight loads the dowel across the 3D printed layers, so be sure to use plenty of outer layers and 20% infill when slicing, and test to ensure the dowel can hold more than the weight of the reel to avoid dropping a reel of filament onto your 3D printer. I've included the STL file as well as the FCstd file if you would like to modify the design in FreeCAD. As if Thingiverse needs another reel holder.
