Nerf SPAS-12 Styled Collapsible Stock
Description
"...Clever girl!" This is a functional, collapsible Nstrike Nerf shoulder stock loosely based on the SPAS-12 (minus the hook). This project first came about as a way to supplement the delightfully excessive Nerf Spas 12 body kit by ehdrien, and as the only logical outcome to Rule of Cool compliance. After working on/off on this design during the lock-down, the end result is cartoonishly wide yet the proportions remain somewhat practical. For obvious reasons however, whether it is HVZ-worthy remains to be seen. It should be a straightforward print, but the assembly is something like a 2/5, aka intermediate difficulty. The main reason for this is that the formation of the arms involves a 3mm peg-tapping process. I got the small compression springs used in this project as part of a bulk assortment on Amazon years ago, although the spring requirements here aren't exact so they should be switchable with anything close enough. I imagine they could be cannibalized from ballpoint pens or old spare blasters if you have any of those laying around. If you're into modding, a stock blaster catch/trigger/lock spring could also do the trick provided it's the right length. More detailed instructions are included in the README.txt file. Enjoy the build, and happy foam-flinging. If anyone gets around to building this, I'd love to hear your feedback! Edit: a friend pointed out to me the SPAS12 was something of a cinema icon, traditionally to be deployed in solemn/ritual fashion shortly before raptor lunch break. My familiarity with this stock was limited exclusively to video games before, so this is something I wish I'd noticed! It does give me more confidence this model works both mechanically and visually in the way it's supposed to.
Revisions: 2020-09-04: SABv2 adds an offset of 1mm. Fit was too tight in v1 when accounting for the detent pin. Also did a minor cosmetic fix on the deco. Use this one instead of SABv1.
# Features - Modular Nstrike stock adapter with spring lever - Detent pin for locking the pivoting arm into deployed/folded position - Integrated Magholder or Mega Dart Holder X 4 - Fully printable on a 120mm X 120mm build plate # Requirements - Hardware: - (2) 7/32" x 11/16" compression spring - (1) 1/4" x 13/32" compression spring - (2) 12mm M3 Screws - (2) 20mm M3 Screws - (4) M3 Hex Nuts - (2) 12mm M4 Screws - (4) 20mm M4 Screws - (6) M4 Hex Nuts - (4) M4 Washers - Required Tools: - Hammer (for peg-tapping) - Screwdriver/Hex key set for the M3 and M4 screws - Small adjustable wrench/spanner - Hobby knife and/or one of those disposable swivel head deburring tools. - Glue (preferably epoxy, but regular all-purpose glue would work too) - Optional Tools: - 3D printing pen (for extra welding step) - Needle/Diamond hand files (for leveling after welding, also peghole cleanup) - Glass nail files (for finishing/buffing after filing) - Flat-head screwdriver (to be used as a punch/chisel) # References - Nerf Spas 12 body kit by ehdrien - Self-explanatory. I used the overall dimensions of the pump grip and cross-referenced a real steel assembly diagram to eyeball the scale. As I do not own a Mega blaster, I also used the Mega dart carrier dimensions on the Magnus kit by the same designer. - Nerf stock attachment by Demian777 - Reverse-engineered Nstrike stock adapter. Ran into some printability issues so I restarted from scratch and used all new measurements, but the initial concept remained the same. - Nerf Magazine (Clip) Carrier - Molle Compatible by Meishel - Created a squished version of this magholder for use in the stock arm.
