Shading Wyze External Enclosure for V2 and Outdoor Cam

Shading Wyze External Enclosure for V2 and Outdoor Cam

Description

Now supports two cameras. Files marked OD = Outdoor Cam version and V2 = the older Wyze Cam V2 (indoor). Thanks to tremelo68 for providing measurements for the OD. I don't have an OD camera to test that version with, so that's a job for tremelo68. 2020-09-24: Fixed Issue identified by zerofear and confirmed by logullo. Slots in roof that had a 0.5mm deep lip around them (versioning error - sorry), requiring a knife to fix. Updated roof and OpenSCAD files to v1.3. This enclosure was designed with the maximum shading overhang to allow the camera to point horizontally East or West towards the sunrise/sunset providing lens protection against direct sunstrike without occluding the angle of view. The set has 3 or 4 parts depending on V2 or OD (3 that print without supports, plus the roof that requires some attention when slicing to ensure bridging is good for the channels underneath and use support enforcers for the awning, or just use supports all around) that interference-fit together around the camera. The roof is ridged to encourage rain to flow off the sides instead of across the lens, and it has a small dripline underneath the edges to prevent water entering the enclosure. On V2 The USB port cap helps keep water away from the USB port which has been a point of failure on these cameras used outside before. The face cover is optional, but provides a uniform color when printing the enclosure in black or other color that isn't white. Black PLA and direct sunlight? - Well, it's survived the last few months of 100 degree summer so far, but use ABS or PETG if you have concerns. I also thought that if the roof did start to exhibit heat damage, I'd cut thin strips of sticky-backed copper and lay them in the ridges.
