Turtle Wind Spinner Toy
Description
Several years ago I got my mom a Flying Pig Wind Spinner ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007CL8NRM/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&psc=1&linkCode=sl1&tag=simple3d0e-20&linkId=2b5ff984ea4719ec55e7a84ac27bd2a5&language=en_US ). The tough Ithaca NY weather has taken its toll. The fabric was ripped and three of the wings were gone. Originally I was going to just design/3D print new wings, but I got carried away :-) I only had Lime Green ABS filament, so I started thinking what I could design that was green. The idea of a speedy turtle hit my fancy. My first prototype was way too heavy and slow to get started. I drastically thinned out the parts. Because the Wind Spinner is going to be outdoors it has to be printed in ABS or ASA. Both of these materials are tough to 3D print. Some of the components like the rods have to be printed with 100% infill for strength. It took some playing around. The support rods are pretty flimsy for heavy winds. I found some 6mm carbon rods that are much stiffer. I put the parts I used at: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/40914-turtle-wind-spinner-toy I stopped putting links on Thingiverse because they kept mucking with the links so that they could make money off of them.
