B-Wing 1.0 Wing Conversion
Description
Please read first. This is a 3d printable hinge you can add to your 1.0 B-wing models to make their wings fold like the 2.0 model. Disclaimer: This modification requires you to cut up your model to add the hinges. I will provide step by step instructions for the best results but I am not responsible if you destroy your model. Only proceed if you are comfortable cutting your model. What you will need (other than printing supplies) 1) A cutting tool. Either a coping saw (what I used), a jewelry saw (best choice), or and xacto knife (most difficult, don’t cut yourself) 2) Good quality gel super glue 3) Epoxy 4) a toothpick 5) high grit sandpaper (I used 400 grit) 6) Paint (I used Army Painter Castle Grey and Dark Tones Wash) If you lack any of these supplies you may not want to do this conversion and instead simply spend your money on a 2.0 B-wing model. Printing Instructions Look at the Print Settings section for details on the print profile. 1) Important: The wing_rod.stl MUST be printed first. 2) After printing sand with high grit sandpaper the rod portion of the model until smooth. 3) After you have finished sanding, print the bracket.stl. At the 50% complete mark pause the print and insert the wing_rod model with the flat edge at the top. Move the rod so that the inserted part will be below the print head. 4) Resume the print. Once the print is finished allow the print to cool before verifying that the parts will move. So far I have a 50% success rate at getting a working part. I consider this to be acceptable because of the small size and fast print times. Your results may vary based on how well you have your printer dialed in. 5) Repeat steps 1-4 until you have two working hinges. Continued in the Post-Printing section.
