iSmartAlarm Keypad "Communication Error" Fix (Plastic Back Plate)

iSmartAlarm Keypad "Communication Error" Fix (Plastic Back Plate)

Description

The iSmartAlarm keypad is great, but there is one major design flaw that has plagued almost everyone who has purchased it, and that is the constant "Communication Errors" that randomly (or always) happen when using it, rendering the keypad pretty much unusable. It has been determined that the root cause of this problem is actually the magnetic mounting system used for the keypad. The idea is, you affix a metal plate to your wall, and then built in magnets in the keypad will keep it affixed to the wall, while still allowing it to be removed easily in order to change the batteries. Unfortunately, this metal plate seems to interfere with the internal antenna, thus the communications errors. This will allow you to simply mount the keypad without using the metal plate, while still allowing easy removal so that you can change the batteries. Just print the modified battery cover, and the backplate. Screw the backplate to the wall, replace the stock battery cover with the modified one, and slot the two hooked rails on the back of the battery cover in to the holes in the backplate, and slide down to seat it. Removal of the keypad is as easy as sliding it up, and pulling it off the wall. I also suggest covering the motion sensor (small dome) on the front of the keypad with black electrical tape if you are having trouble with the batteries not lasting long enough. It makes a huge difference, and it blends right in with the black front so it doesn't look too bad. This will prevent the keypad from lighting up until you hit a button on it, but it's a small price to pay. This really works. I have used it like this for almost a year with no problems whatsoever. If you like this design, consider a tip, and/or post a make!
