Filament Estimator Stick

Filament Estimator Stick

Description

A small measure to roughly estimate remaining filament mass (grams). However, the formulas don't care what filament remaining measure you use, so you can input e.g. filament length instead. This is my first OpenSCAD design. The supplied configuration fits on the Prusa MK3S spool holder and measures Add North PLA 750g spools correctly. The scale is in grams. Use the customizer to adjust for another filament. Also, see the image showing the locations of the measurements. The "sample" measurement is anywhere where you know the radius of the filament and how much it weighs (hint: You can usually find the weight of a spool at the supplier, if you don't have any empty spools to weigh. The value I got was a bit off though.) At first I tried using filament density for the calculations, but the mismatch is too big, likely to all the air around the filament string. Idea for non-transparent spools: Make a measure that goes from the outer edge of the spool down to the filament. Hold it on top of the filament to take a measurement.
