Yet Another Ender 3 Filament Roller

Yet Another Ender 3 Filament Roller

Description

Yet another Ender 3 filament holder. I designed this to help me print very flexible TPE, which was stretching a lot before the filament spool would inch around. I wanted something which would allow the spool to be free running, and to make use of the hardware that I had on hand (nuts, bolts, bearings). The first version achieved this but suffered from a serious design problem - the roller was so low friction that the spool was unravelling, leading to tangles. The direct drive conversion made this worse as the print head yanks the filament during travel moves. My initial idea for a fix was to add an adjustable friction plate or clutch, rather like a fishing reel, however I couldn't come up with an easy way to integrate this, plus it would put me back to square one with printing TPE. I then realised that I need damping rather than friction, which quickly lead me to those door opening dampers which typically work via a rack. After a bit of googling I found the below damper stocked at Misumi for a couple of dollars. Extra hardware needed (not including printed parts): 1) M6 x 80mm Bolt, Qty 1 2) M6 Nut, Qty 1 3) M6 Washer, Qty 2 4) 626Z bearing, Qty 2 5) Tok TD102W1-25 Rotary Damper (Optional - may not be required for bowden setup)
