Desk Organizer #studentchallenge

Description

Project Statement: This design will benefit all students learning from home given that it takes no space on you desk! The desk organizer will especially help children who have a small workspace. Computers are big and since we are on them most of the time now we have less room for other things such as writing materials. Students do not want something that takes up more space on their desk just to have their materials look fancy and organized. That is why my desk organizer is the ideal choice for students working from home. Answers To Questions: Throughout this project I have come across a few issues. The main issue I had when designing had to do with how I was going to make this work for all desks no matter the thickness or edge. This led me to creating the clamp. Other issues involved aesthetics. I had already created a design that does what it was intended to do, but I hadn't quite gotten it to look as pleasing as I would have liked. This issue has not really been solved yet and is something that I would amend if I were given extra time. I would also add some more compartments so people could have more freedom with what they actually want to have on the platform. 3D printing helps when designing given that it allows for you to get a tangible object, which in turn allows you to analyze what you have made to find mistakes. Printing Information: The design is 7 parts as shown in the Fusion 360 photo. This entire design should take around 15 hours to print. The design parts take up a lot of room on a print bed and because of this you will need two separate printing jobs to complete the design. I should note that the screws need to be printed at around 30% infill to strengthen them. For looks I was also able to play around with the slicer and change the parameters so that the infill could be visible. This was just for aesthetics though and is not necessary. Design: Somethings in the photos may not be entirely visible and I'd like to point out those things. The organizer platform is cut in a way that allows the pieces to slid on. The organizer has two little bumps on either side. This helps prevent the pieces from sliding off unexpectedly. I would also like to mention that the goal of this project was to create something that takes no room on your desk. The fact that it is customizable is a bonus. The entire platform can also be angled how ever you want. The phone stand only works for Apple Iphone 7 and 8. Because of the limitations I have with print volume I was only able to make the phone holder the size of my own phone. If however you own or have access to a printer that has a larger print volume you can easily lengthen the organizer and phone stand in order to suit your needs. I named the organizer DESKEEZY. It is written faintly on the organizer platform. About Myself: My name is John. I am currently a 10th grader in high school. I was introduced to 3d printing as an 8th grader through my school. My 2 years of experience has helped me greatly when designing this project.
