Espresso GrindDozer – Coffee Funnel, Doser and Distributor
Description
A simple tool for mess-free grinding, dosing and even distribution of coffee grounds in espresso baskets before tamping. The tool consists of two rings that are screwed together with a variable number and sizes of spacers between them to adjust the coffee dose. Designed for standard 58 / 58.55 mm baskets. When tested for dosing consistency, the tool showed a standard deviation of dose weight of 0.13 g. How to use the GrindDozer (see the appropriate picture): 1. Assemble the tool with your desired number and sizes of spacers. Place it on an espresso basket inserted in a portafilter. 2. Start grinding coffee in the basket while turning the tool to distribute the grounds. 3. Grind slowly towards the end, stop grinding when the surface of the coffee is smooth and there is a small heap of extra grounds pushed around by the distributor arm (the size of the extra heap determines the overall dose consistency). 4. You can either discard the extra heap, or (and that's what I do) you can gently tap the bottom of the portafilter against your tamping mat and turn the tool again to distribute the heap (the tap makes room for it in the basket). Now you can either weigh the dose and re-adjust the spacers as necessary, or, if you have the dose already dialed in, you can proceed to tamping, brewing and enjoying your espresso.
