Fern Ceiling Lamp

Attention: this model involves AC household electricity! Proceed only if you know what you are doing and at your own risk! Any liability is excluded! This is a remix of LAMcDonald's beautiful fern design. I had four issues with it: - my PLA was too bendy and sagged more than I liked - my intended light bulb was so big, that the proportions did not work - I wanted a high even number of leaves ;-) - my intended light bulb was an E27 bulb and the socket for that meant I could not use the original center piece anyway Hence, I designed a new "lamp base" with 10 holes. It should be completely compatible with the fern from LAMcDonald. It is on my printer. To be sure, you can first try with the „TestRing.stl“ I used an E27 socket from a hardware store which can be press fit into the downward facing pipe. The „TestRing.stl“ has the same inner diameter as the pipe, so you can test whether your socket will work. Since my ceiling is basically impenetrable I wanted to glue the lamp to the ceiling using power strips. That's why the „mounting plates“ are slightly retracted. Print with supports here. The last picture (with the blue and gold leaves) show that lamp base with the original fern from LAMcDonald. Because of the proportions and sagging I reworked the leaves as well. I reinforced the leaves in original size and scaled them up by 1,8 for the „Large_Reinforced“ leaves. The reinforcements are not really pretty since it was difficult to model the STL file, but since this will be facing towards the ceiling I did not really care. I also „lifted“ the connecting pin of the leaves off the print surface. The thought is that when pressed into the hole, the leave's weight will rest on the little „podium“ pressing against the downward facing pipe. So be sure to add supports for the pin. I printed the leaves with first layer height 0.25mm and after that 0.2mm. Attention: this model involves AC household electricity! Proceed only if you know what you are doing and at your own risk!
