70mm to 80mm adapter - Silverstone FS303 mod

70mm to 80mm adapter - Silverstone FS303 mod

Description

Adapter to replace the stock fan on a FS303 hotswap drive cage with an 80mm one. The stock fan, as I'm sure any owner is aware, is quite loud and not temperature controlled. In a rack that's not a problem, but for us civilian NAS owners it's not so good. This mount allows you to swap the (rare) 70mm fan out for a (common) 80mm one, for example a PWM Noctua. I don't know why they didn't use an 80mm fan in the first place, it fits nicely on the back and this is the only model in the series to use a 70mm. Put M4 nuts into the sockets and push the adapter onto the mounting pillars for the old fan. Secure it in place with glue or suitable screws (the originals are much too long and will damage the circuit board, don't use them). Screw your new fan on with 10mm M4 bolts, use washers. Install a dust filter if you feel the need. If you want to install a thermistor make sure you do so before you glue anything, I learned this the hard way.
