Solder Fume Extractor (80mm fan)

Solder Fume Extractor (80mm fan)

Description

An easy to print, small footprint soldering lead fume extractor. Designed to fit an 80mm 12v DC fan (took mine out of an old ATX power supply) and one or two layers of activated carbon filter (also 80x80mm). Made to be assembled with M4 bolts (4pcs.) and nuts (up to 16pcs.), but M3 should work just as fine, if a little loose in the holes. For my configuration (with 2 carbon filters), I chose to print 3 grille pieces and assembled as follows: - inserted bolts from the back end and secured them with a nut each, which also acts as a spacer; - added the filter (corners cut to fit around the nuts and bolts); - placed the first grille piece to keep the filter from touching the fan blades; - added the fan (wires go through the side hole) and secured it with nuts; - placed the second grille, also secured with nuts; - added the second filter, just as before; - secured it all together with the third grille and a last set of nuts. You might get away with using only two grilles, but I find the above configuration to be the best at preventing any kind of contact with the fan blades.
