Creality CR6 CR-6 SE Cooling Duct With LED Lights
Description
I like the look of the blue LED, but it's rubbish to actually see the print. A fan duct seemed the ideal starting point for adding more! The original fan duct design from Kroffty is amazing. I just added the ability to put some cheap LED lights from an LED light-strip in there. As they are 5V LED's they can plug straight in to the socket the original blue LED used. The wiring was a pain to get the lengths exactly right! The LED strip is 7mm thick and tucks nicely under the curve of the fan duct. I used gorilla glue to attach it and cover the wiring. It's the standard glue that foams up and I've found it works really well on 3D prints. I didn't want to risk hot glue near a source of heat. Looks ugly, but I drew over it in sharpie to hide it better. I printed mine in PETG. Update: I'd actually prefer the lights a bit more hidden so the camera I've got mounted to the X-stepper can't see them, so I made some more versions with a slightly thinner top, very thinner top and slightly deeper outside. Obviously, this may be weaker and closer to the bed so it's up to you which you print. I've not printed these newer versions. Update 2: I've added a version where I angled the plane the LEDs are glued to so that they point more to the centre. I'm going to use this one when I get more LEDs delivered. It should result in better lighting and less camera glare. Update 3: I fixed up the file a LOT. I improved the airflow, smoothed the bottom/edges even more and added extra ports to catch any air that gets past the first two exits on each side. I've also changed the angles the LEDs glue onto and added a lip to keep them in and block the light from the sides. I've not printed this yet, but I'm planning on doing so as I think it will work much better than the one I'm currently using. UPDATE 4:I've given up on this model I'm afraid. I think the cooling on this isn't good enough to be honest. I tested it by blowing into it even with the tweaked version where I directed the air more downwards it doesn't go where it needs to. I'd advise looking around for another. I tried the one that had three exits and that was too close to the nozzle and melted and closed up. I think I'm going to go back to the stock cooler and find and alternate light placement option and possibly look for a better fan. See my posted make for better images and how I installed it. Take careful note of the wire colours on the plug. It's just a standard 2-pin fan connector - the same as the PSU and motherboard plugs. Note that the positive and neutral are reversed from the PSU fan connector! You WILL need supports for this. The original support for the clip still works and will need cutting with a knife to remove. If you decide to do this, it's at your own risk. Don't blame me if your printer breaks!
