Heavy duty Universal Cuff

Heavy duty Universal Cuff

Description

This is a universal cuff meant for individuals with impaired hand function to help secure their hand to various objects. I have not seen one designed like this anywhere else but it is based on the concept of the cloth universal cuff that can cost around $10. The cloth ones work well for small every day items, but when it comes to larger or heavier items they typically do not perform as well. From the limited activities I have had a chance to trial this with, it has worked well for a lot of people. I like this set up because the standard universal cuffs have to use specific objects that can fit into them or have to be attached to items to allow them to secure the hand to the object. With this set up it does require initial set up assistance, but can be left attached to various items for more independent use for activities of daily living. I am still trying to find other activities to really test it with and see if it is as durable as it seems. The PLA base is a simple design that I made to allow strapping material to pass through the base for a more rigid connection to objects for securing. I sewed 3/4 inch velcro to the 1 inch nylon webbing strapping together to secure the simple PLA D-ring and PLA rectangular ring that I made (which I will probably try to improve later). I also glued some non slip dycem to enhance the object holding capability, but if you have dual extrusion maybe you could print a TPU coating on one side instead of gluing extra material. I made a simple retention loop to be printed in TPU to help hold the TPU straps. I used the TPU strap STL from DustyDingus: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3237001 who remixed the Ominitrix Basic thing by Netsaber: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2452682 I am planning to update the straps based on the Strap with 2 sphere hook that Runkel made: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4080676 I am hoping this thing can be a helpful tool to allow people to re-engage in meaningful occupations and activities to increase their quality of life. This is my first upload and I am still very new to this with not very much CAD or 3D experience so if anyone thinks they can make it more efficient please feel free to remix. Use this item at your own risk but please feel free to comment or provide feedback so I can try to improve it.
