Impulse Modkit Mk3 (lens attachment thread for the Polaroid Impulse)

Impulse Modkit Mk3 (lens attachment thread for the Polaroid Impulse)

Description

This is a device to add 55mm or 49mm standard lens attachments to a Polaroid Impulse camera, enabling macro photography, lens filters, telephotos, or whatever you can add to a camera with a lens attachment. ### **Important: This is not a standalone print, it requires a step-up ring, either in 52-55mm or 46-49mm depending on your choice of filter head.** There are two parts to this print, a rail and a filter head. The rail goes on the camera and stays on, holding the filter head with a ratchet. The filter head is meant to slide out when not in use, and has the thread for whatever lens attachment you'd like to use. To remove it, just press in on the locking arm on the rail (or, depending on the resolution of your print, you might be able to just yank it out). Two different sizes of filter heads are included. The 49mm size is optimal for the non-AF Impulse cameras, allowing to be pushed back completely (minimizing inaccuracies stemming from the distance between the filter/macro lens and the camera's main lens) and it's notably compatible with the Lomo'Instant Wide's attachment thread. The Impulse AF has a larger sonar bump, for that the 55mm size is recommended to reduce vignetting. Both filter heads are printed at a different actual thread size than their name implies: the 49mm head has a 46mm thread, and the 55mm head has a 52mm thread. This is because the plastic threads from the previous design are super fiddly, and for ease of use this design has been upgraded to a metal thread, courtesy of an aluminum step-up ring. The 49mm head takes a 46-49mm step-up ring, while the 55mm head needs a 52-55mm one. These are intended to be left in the filter head permanently, allowing you to use only the ring's metal thread. You should be able to find these rings at camera stores (I got mine from B&H). ### Changes from mk2 - Different rail cross-section (now with 100% more incompatibility) - Different rail design, with a more compact design that hopefully doesn't catch on everything - New filter head design with a metal thread and better clearance Note: the focus chart still doesn't take the distance between the lens and the camera into account. This awaits further testing. **ABS plastic or stronger recommended. This model has not been tested with PLA.**
