PitchBowls

PitchBowls

Description

Making pitch bowls out of thermoplastic is probably a bad idea! Anyway, here are a few alternatives. The best approach is probavbly the bottom of an old fire extinguisher. They are aluminium and 117mm diameter. I made a stand-alone flat bottom pitch block first, which is useful in its own right, and printed a bowl sleeve and stand. The pitch block is easy to get in and out. I git a lot of lead in the block so it is very stable. My first attempt was to use the cheapest small dog bowls I could find on amazon. Best was 3 for £1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000LXRE3C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ASIN B000LXRE3C I bet the size might change depending on when you order. I also did a design for https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009JU301S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ASIN B009JU301S which was smaller and £2 for 1 bowl. So worse all round. You will need to add a lot of weight somehow... Lead is best but expensive (unless you risk your health getting it from old car batteries) so it you are investing that much then you may as well get a proper bowl that doesn't melt. I used a .8 mm nozzle to print. 20% fill. I put a few extra layers around the wall in case that helps protect from accidental heating with the blow gun. If you print upright and use print support and are careful when removing the support then you might end up with a base as well, but the fire extinguisher version includes one.
