Sim Racing Wheel Button Box with Magnetic Paddle Shifters
Description
I've designed the button Box to work with 300mm to 320mm steering wheels. The button box contains 8 push buttons and 2 magnetic paddle shifters and interfaces with a PC via an Arduino Pro Micro. Assembly Print out the parts. Choose which back cover you want to use depending on your setup. One has a cable hole located on the back, and the other has the cable hole located on the bottom. You will need to print 2 shifter hinge arms and 2 shifter switch plates. Print the shifter hinge arms and paddles using 100% infill. The rest can be printed using 40% infill. Program the Arduino Pro Micro following the instructions in the provided file. Glue the nuts into the mounting points on the back of the front cover. Wire up and push the lever arm micro switches into the shifter switch plates noting the orientation in the included image. Glue the magnets into the slots in the back cover and shifter hinge arms. Install the cable gland into the back cover and feed in the USB cable. Install the shifter hinge arms into the back cover using a 30mm screw and nut. Position the shifter switch plates into position on the back cover. Install the push button switches into the front cover. Wire up all the switches and then install the front cover onto the back cover using the 30mm screws. Install the shifter paddles using the 8mm screws. Tips Do not put super glue directly into the nut mounting points. Instead mount a nut onto the tip of a screw and then dip the nut into the glue making sure not to get any on the thread. You can then use the screw to push them into the mounting point. Use sandpaper to rough up the surface of the magnet where the glue will be applied. Also make sure to check the magnet orientation between the back cover and shifter hinge arms to make sure they attract. So it can fit, you will need a 90 degree micro USB connector to plug into the Arduino Pro Micro. You can also cut the plastic of a normal connector to enable it to be bent. Use tape to help position the wires when installing.
