Towel Wall Hook with Faceplate
Description
Simply put, this is a towel wall hook and decorative faceplate designed to be adhered to a wall with screws and fasteners. The hook is ideal for towels and other similar household items. I have included two .stl files, the wall hook that is screwed to the wall (or you could possibly use some type of strong double-sided tape), and a decorative faceplate that slips over the hook and conceals the screws and hook base. The faceplate stays in place pretty well just by the friction fit. I printed the hook in the same orientation that the hook is placed on a wall, so that the printing layer orientation will help the hook portion to be stronger. I printed the faceplate with the face up, with 'ironing' turned on for the top layer, so that the surface is as smooth and commercial looking as possible; and I still sanded the face smooth with an orbital sander and 600 grit sanding disc. Both objects require printing with support, but clean up is pretty easy. It's always nice to not have to print with supports, but when printing in FDM, for the strongest hook and the nicest looking faceplate, they are necessary. With all of the designs already available for wall or towel bathroom hooks, it is probably hard not to wonder why anyone would spend time designing yet another. Well, there are two such towel hooks that have been in use at my house for over 25 years. One of them recently broke. As far as I can tell, exact replacements are no longer available. After removing the broken pieces, I was left with two screw holes with wall fasteners peeping out, and a circular indentation where the original faceplate had stuck to the paint. I wanted something that worked the same, or better, and something that would hide the paint blemishes. So, I copied the original parts and made the hook a little more beefy, for strength. :)
