Makita battery powered fan/motor controller

Makita battery powered fan/motor controller

Description

Motor controller housing for a variable speed fan and could also be used to drive other motors from a Makita battery. I chose a simple / cheap motor speed controller from Ebay that fitted within the housing. The battery socket holds the Makita OEM connector insert (the yellow piece), part number 643852-2 (approx cost £4.50 for this part on eBay). I used hot glue around the periphery on the inside of the housing to secure this in place. I used 25mm long stainless steel self tappers from Screwfix hold the lid on. The side panels are 2mm aluminium plates and I bought some punched sheet for the sides to allow freeish airflow to the circuit board heat sinks. The first time I made this I printed the lettering raised and painted them white but it rubbed off easily. The lettering is now separate and can be pressed into the recesses in the top cover. The Makita logo is slightly tapered and shaped to fit in but it's a tight fit and you need to cut any start / end bumps off before pressing in the lettering. Originally I wanted to also press in the 0-18V DC lettering but the sizing was at about the limit resolution of the printer and in the end I flooded the letter grooves with white epoxy.
