Ender 5 Chimera mount (side screws) V3 w/ direct drive, extruder arm and cable chain
Description
LADICHIMERA: E3D Chimera mount for Ender 5 w/ direct drive, extruder arm and cable chain ============= UPDATES -------------- **UPDATE 29.12.2021: I added 1mm offset between chimera and the backplate to resolve issues with the bottom screw. UPDATE 10.12.2021: Blower now has rounded back edge to provide more clearance towards the y-axis carriage UPDATE 4.12.2021: Chimera now sits 2mm lower for better clearance. I completely redesigned the blowers. I also added a direct drive adapter and an extruder arm for the second extruder.** GENERAL INFORMATION ----------------------- This is a completely new version (bulit from scratch) of my remix: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4687258 . The chimera mount is designed to be fitted on Ender 5. The blower was inspired by petsfang and uses a single 5015 fan. This mount also allows you to have one extruder mounted for **direct drive** and the other on the **extruder arm**. All wires and bowden tubes are designed to go into the **cable chain**, which you can print (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2920060). *But you don't need to use the direct drive or the extruder arm or cable chain if you don't want to. The mount will be fully functional without these features, but you can add them later.* **I hope you enjoy the chimera mount!!! Please comment and post a make, especially if something doesn't fit/work, I will be happy to fix it!** The issues with belt clip have been taken care of. There is a modular ABL mount (currently only for Bltouch, but it isn't hard to make one). If you own a **chimera clone** (with back screws) like I do, just go to your local hardware store and buy a 2.5mm drill bit, and a M3 thread tap (they are really cheap). Then convert your cheap chinese chimera clone to Chimera+ with side screws ;) **The main advantages are:** + *Very clean setup* + Able to have 4020 fan mounted in the front, without crashing into the frame + There is no reduction of travel movement on X axis, since the X carriage is larger than the footprint of the design with blower + You can mount the original 3010 fan inside the mount, should you not have 4010 or 4020 fan. + The airflow for heatsink is focused on the heatsink, and has been studied with CFD to provide evidence, that the airflow over the heatsink (4010 fan) is sufficient. + 5015 blower fan design to provide excellent cooling on the nozzle ABL MOUNT ------------ For **BLTouch** use the following offsets (if primary extruder is right): X= -39 mm, Y= -28 mm or **X= -21 mm, Y= -28 mm** (if primary extruder is left; recommended) HOW TO PRINT -------- TO DO: But orient for minimal support. Print chimera mount as is. Print blower vertically. Print direct drive so that the frontal face is facing down. INSTALATION ---------------- The order should be as follows: 0. Print all parts and prepare screws, extruders, hotend, bowden tube, long enough stepper cable (for direct drive stepper) 1. Disassemble the carriage by removing your old hotend and unscrewing the top two wheels. And **reverse the bottom carriage wheel screw, so the nut is in the same direction as the upper two.** *This will provide you with needed clearance for the hotend.* 2. Mount the direct drive adapter and screw the carriage back on. 3. Mount the empty chimera mount by fixing it with two screws (one inside, other outside) 4. Mount the stepper for direct drive and the plastic/aluminium extruder 5. Measure the bowden tube required between the extruder and the hotend. HOW TO: Insert cca 10cm of bowden tube fully into the chimera hotend. Now repeatedly insert the chimera into the mount pushing the bowden into the extruder. Cut the bowden incrementally to get the required length. (I will post the required length once I am certain it is correct) 6. Attach the chimera into the chimera adapter by 3 top screws. I recommend you insert heater catridge and thermistors before inserting chimera into the adapter. 7. Now mount the blower with side screws. To adjust height, put the larger spanner between the blower and buildplate when the buildplate is fully up. This should give you the required clearance of cca 2mm. 8. Attach extruder arm, and mount the extruder onto it. Connect it with bowden tube to the remaining extruder. 9. Add cable chain if you want. + **When pushing the wheel spacer into the direct drive mount, do it so that the extra 1mm of the spacer is on the side where the wheels come. This will ensure that wheels don't collide with the mount.** + To mount the cable chain adapters to direct drive mount and the extruder arm use 4x M3x10 screws. + To mount blower to the chimera mount use 2x M3x10 screws + To mount extruder arm to the 2020 extrusion profile use 4x M3x10 screws BILL OF MATERIAL ------ 10x M3x10 screws (I used imbus head) all original Solidworks files are available upon inquiry.
