Modular Lithophane lamp

Modular Lithophane lamp

Description

Here is my modular Lithophane lamp. I find this is very versatile to different needs and desires :) This will hold 4 portrait style lithophanes (Dimension requirements below) This system can use configurable tops and bases. I have included 2 different bases (round and square) and one test top. You can just print out the holder and the top (no acc hole) for a simple display cube (use rubber feet to clear any cabling you would use) Lithophane required size: 3mm thick x 144.71mm x 100mm wide with frames (basewidth-4 baseheight-5) Lighting: - I used a Christmas village light holder with an 40watt B10 candelabra bulb - you can also use a tea light (I am including an adapter for that shortly) - wiring spaces provided - I also used a SonOff wifi remote switch to use with my Alexa setup. - Wiring ran through without a problem (fed top down) this may be more finicky depending on your wiring requirement Parts: - The base - Sits nice and solid as printed, you may want to glue on a plate or wood base to it to make it heavier - There is a wiring channel running through the base for lighting - The base is optional if you just want to use a tea light (adapter supplied) and some rubber feet on the bottom - I have included 2 base designs (round and square) - Supports needed for the square base version - The Top lid - alignment pegs to attach to the main holder - 2 versions, with and without an accessory hole - Accessory hole version allows for decorative toppers or custom top plate decorations - No supports are needed - The Main holder - Tolerances are good for stated lithophane dimensions and will allow for any print deviations in those - Ideally print this in black to frame the lithophanes nicely - USE LED LIGHT BULBS, I can't stress this enough, you want a low heat producing bulb to not ruin the litho's or the whole thing. I used a B10 base candelabra style LED at 40 watts with a Christmas village light bulb base (the clip fits right in the column to secure it with no glue) - There is an adapter for a tea light included that slides into the column if you want to go wireless - No supports needed - If you sand the inner mount hole to the point where you get some minor movement you are able to turn the pictures without turning the base - Tea light adapter - Pops into the column inside the main holder - No Supports should be needed - Decorative Top - 2 piece print (Requires pin below) - No supports needed - This is just a test decorative top I threw together - The pin feeds from the bottom of the lid and the topper will friction fit attach to that, sanding will be required for the pin or resize to best suit your printer - There are 2 top designs to choose from - Pin Sized: - Required for the decorative top - Sized to provide a good friction fit to the top through the cap - Required a little sanding (30 seconds or so) Assembly: Pretty simple setup the base slides into the bottom of the holder, Optionally you can glue it, but I like it to be modular for different looks, run your light of choice into the base/column and slide in your photos, attach the top cap (don't glue if you want to swap them out and be able to work on the light) and attach your topper if applicable. Just as a tip, I recommend the SonOff inline WIFI controller for Alexa/google control :) they can be as cheap as 11 bucks on sale. January-12-2021 - Everything is now printed, tested, adjusted, and uploaded. Couple days work but it came out really well. - Added a new square base :) this will need support if your printer doesn't print well well with 70 degree overhangs (mine does well but I had some stray filaments to remove, so I wanted to mention it here) - Started to add make photos - All parts are uploaded and complete now - New sized pin added, a touch of sanding and this has just the right fit to the topper January-11-2021 - changed the base to include dual column flares for strength and top stability from the bottom to the shaft - rebuild the main holder to be properly symmetrical (ugh, one little thing gets compounded fast, wasn't out by much at all, but my OCD don't like that) - added a new decorative topper (2 piece) If you enjoy my prints or remixes please consider becoming a Patron! https://www.patreon.com/rkxdesigns Becoming a patron gets you early access to files and opportunities to get involved with the creative process.
