CNC Drag Chain

CNC Drag Chain

Description

I couldn't find a large drag chain with segmented channels without a special order. I wanted to be able to ensure separation between my VFD cable and my sensor lines. Previously I had been using zip ties to restrain them to either side of the cable way. Additionally I added a water cooled spindle and wanted to route my water lines in my drag chain. So 3 channels. The pivot points are made with multiple contacts stops on 2 or 3 sides of the axis. This minimizes the bending force on the conical pivot interface. The standard for industrial drag chains is to use a bowtie type feature to control the angle. This is not an easy feature to 3D print without interior supports, so I used a conical surface. I tried printing this vertical, so the layers would resist opening, however, the weakest point on the part is the interface between the arm and the main body. This area cannot have a chamfer or fillet without affecting the fit. With the crossbar acting to create a box structure there is not issue with printing horizontal in the orientation saved. My VFD cable recommended a min 6 in bend radius, but, I made both a 6" and an 8". They are both pretty large, so unless you need the space there are better options. If there is interest I have some earlier versions that have 2 channels I can clean up and post. Just let me know.
