Bondtech LGX for Flexibles mount | Artillery X1/Genius | BLTouch | 5015 Blower 50º

Description

# PROTOTYPE ### Updates (dd/mm/yyyy) - 10/02/2021: + Improved fan duct: its more easy to print and a bit more rigid. Only need supports that touch hotbed, not the piece. + New version 5015 blower's mount: this new version is splitt in two parts for print without supports and easy. Its recommended join all together with glue . This version hold the blower so that it does not move and have very low tolerance. + LGX mount - BL-Touch related: now you only need 1 screw with her nut to mount BL-Touch because the supports of second hole was impossible to remove. Now the mount is a bit more rigid. - 11/02/2021: + Improved fan duct - blower attach: the part to attach on blower was too weak and break easily. Now is more strong and rigid. - 13/02/2021: + Improved fan duct (again): I notice that the acople with 5015 blower have too tolerance. Now is attached in better way; minor tolerance and more rigid. The airflow could be better, so i added 2 more air's hole and improved the direction of air to the tip of nozzle. - 16/02/2021: + Rework PCB separator: today, i have the LGX on mi hands. When i attacht this to my Genius, i realise that PCB is to near to bed and flex cable sometime it get stuck with belt pulley. Because of this, i redesign the PCB separator to elevate this 15 mm and separate of stepper motor to permit connect the cables. Two pieces, the small is between the stepper motor and PCB separator, the other is the PCB separator. Need 3 more M3 screws, and 4 nuts. Stick with glue both pieces. - 18/02/2021: + You will need a bit more of length extruder motor cable. Sorry for the incovenience. + The PCB is place 15mm further away of the stepper; nozzle heater connection need more space. - 20/02/2021: + Fixed fan duct: the long side was too short. I expand this a bit to ensure that fan duct fit well. I checked this with a cad model. Thanks to jailbreaker07 for the feedback! - 28/02/2021: + Improved X-Mount: i added a small support on arms that attach the back side of stepper motor to become more stable. + New PCB covers (2 models): one aesthetic and the other with 40mm fan hole to active cooling the stepper motor - 01/03/2021: + Improved X-Mount: the x-mount is 1 mm thinner (maintaining the thickness of the part that rests on the support plate). The screws necessary to attach this is changed to more long to ensure stability. I use the screws that come on back side of stepper motor (~17mm). - 04/03/2021: + Minor fixes on fan duct: the holes (air out) are a bit bigger (removed top fillet of the triangles and have been joined by pairs). The little notch to place the radial fan is more wide. The right-bottom hole to attach duct to fan is more rigid and easy to print (with support, of course) and the left-upper too. The plate that supports the fan (and that contains the screw holes) is more rigid and stable. - 21/03/2021: + Redesign fan duct holes: Redesign fan duct holes: i notice that i have overheat on my prints, no matter how low the hotend temp, the problem was the fan duct. I redesign the hole pattern and the direction of the air to ensure its go on the correct direction. I repeat the CDF simulation to verify this. I never going edit the fan duct design without repeat CDF simulation, sorry for the incovenience. - 30/05/2021: + Added a new x carriage mount without bltouch. Thanks to **MpchBrwn** idea and his model that inspired this. - 04/06/2021: + Fan duct rework! Now the blower is 50º about original position and the direction of air is corrected due to a measure error (1mm) on the Bondtech LGX FF CAD file. This performance are increased in consecuence on this rework. Dont worry, does not interfere with other part of the Artillery. + Fan mount rework! Due to fan duct rework, was necesary to design a mount to this. Its light and strong. There are two version; - Screw version: has a support for attach the blower by his screw holes. - Glue version (recommended): is more light and easy to print, you only need to glue the exits of the blower to the mount. Loctite is removed with acetone, dont worry, the original fan duct of the artillery comes glued. - 08/06/2021: + Added a led strip mount: can mount a 5cmx1cm led strip (3 SMD chip in my situation) to anyone want to mount one. Its inclined and this goes attached to back of the stepper motor, on the free bottom screw and supported on the motor axis hole, in the center. ### Description Its my first prototype for mount Bondtech LGX for Flexibles to my Artillery Genius (X1 compatible). I selected this Bondtech model by his short path, low weight and max Z-height is keped. Need new 3 screws for mount on X carriage, because originals are too shorts. This piece have two mount points to attach LGX: - Two holes to screw on the left faces of LGX (looking from logo face) that has space to access to gears' window. - Two arms hold the back of the stepper motor to ensure that is rigid and not shaking. In this piece you can attach BL-Touch without X-Offset and only with 1 screw and his nut. The bottom of BL-Touch are 3mm of vertical distance to the noozle, as manufacter recommended. Also, its included a 5015 blower's mount, to attach on LGX front with two top screws that come from the factory. With him, a improved and optimiced fan duct behind a CDF simulation (**thanks to Simscale for his free and fabulous service!**). The air flow goes into nozzle's direction how you can check attached images. Small and powerfull! This is 50º inclined to minimize path and inner turbulence. Improve the airflow that can be out. Shlud stick with glue. (**Specials thanks to MpchBrwn, your ideas and feedback let me finish this project**) See Simscale project! https://www.simscale.com/projects/juanlu46/bondtech_lgx_fan_5015_semi-circular_duct/ A PCB separator its included, to mount on back side to stepper motor identically to Artillery default setup. Its have two pieces; the small is between stepper motor and PCB separator, the other is the PCB separator. Glue both. **You will need a bit more of length extruder motor cable** There are two PCB covers: - One with only aesthetic functionality, with the Artillery logo on two sides to permit a correct air flow and no overheat - The other with 40mm fan hole, also with two Artillery logo, to active cooling of the stepper motor and to cool the engine and extend its life. If you have a small led strip (5cmx1cm max) you can download the mount (3 SMD chip in my situation). Its inclined and this goes attached to back of the stepper motor, on the free bottom screw and supported on the motor axis hole, in the center. I appreciate any change proposal and critics! If you need more information, talk to me in the comments section! ### Thanks Specially thanks to **Control 3D** Online Academy (https://control3d.net) for Fusión 360 course. Thanks César for your time and dedicación! Thanks to **MpchBrwn**!, to provide me with multiple ideas and feedback that help me to develop No-BLTouch x carriage mount and new 50º fan duct and mount. ### BL-Touch Offsets - **X**: 0 mm - **Y**: 32 mm ### Supports? - LGX mount: Yes - PCB separator: + Small piece: No + PCB separator (big): Yes, but only touch platform supports. (V orientation) - Blower mount: No - Fan duct: Yes, but only touch platform supports. **No inner supports need, its important**. Lower the temp and speed. - Led strip mount: No ### Mount Order (Recommend) 1. Mount BL-Touch to LGX_mount piece. Screw from up to down with nut on bottom. 2. Stick with glue fan duct with his mount 3. Screw the blower mount to LGX (with fan duct glued) 4. Attach LGX to his mount. But not screw the back side yet (back of stepper motor) 5. Stick with glue both part of PCB separator and attach this to back side of stepper motor (upper). Glue not neccesary, but recommended. 5. Screw PCB to the PCB separator with nuts. 6. Attacht the mount with all components to Artillery's X carriage 7. Place the blower into the fan mount. Screw or glue version. 8. Calibration party! ### Necessary Hardware - A longer extruder motor cable (Motor to PCB cable) - Glue (like loctite) - 5015 radial fan - 1x Screw M2.5x15mm (Supplied with BL-Touch) with his nut (M3 compatible) - 2x Screws M3x17mm to attach left side of LGX (Washers recommended). The back side screws of stepper motor will fit - 2x Screws M4x26mm with his nuts, to attach blower to his mount and the fan duct. (M3 compatible). ONLY SCREW VERSION. - 3x Screws M5x33mm with his nuts, to attach the piece with all components to the x carriage to replace the originals (too shorts). Washers recommended. - 4x Screws M3x10mm (or bigger) with nuts to attach PCB to PCB separator. - 2x Screws M3x30mm to attach the PCB separator to stepper motor with the small piece between both. - 1x Screws M3x25mm to attach the bottom arm of LGX mount to stepper motor.
