Convert manual lens into a telescope: E-mount to eyepiece 1.25"
Description
This is an adapter to recycle an old manual focus camera lens into a telescope. It fits onto a Sony E-mount bayonet. Manual, old lenses are cheap and of very good quality for their price. This way you can get e.g. a 200-400 mm scope of excellent quality. Much cheaper than buying a proper guide scope. What you need: - an **old camera lens**, with manual focus and aperture rings. I would recommend full manual old school lenses, cheap on ebay. In the example photo, I use a Soligor 60-300mm/F4-5.6 zoom lens with Minolta/Sony A-mount. - an **E-mount adapter** to fit the lens bayonet/mount to a Sony E-mount. For this example, I use a KF-concept Sony-A to E-mount converter that has aperture control, but you will find plenty of such adapters for M42, Canon, Minolta, Nikkon, etc lens mounts. - an **eyepiece**. I use a Plossl 30mm What you print (0.2mm should do, no support): - the E-mount ring derived from a lens cap, with an helical screw thread for fine adjust focus. - the threaded tube with inner radius 1.25". Insert the eyepiece there-in. Assemble: - place the 2 parts in between the E-mount and the eyepiece. Simple and efficient. Once printed, use some sandpaper to smooth slightly the threads and inner 1.25" tube so that all fits. The only limitation is that there is no space to add a prism or mirror for an L-shaped eyepiece position. This is a direct view scope design.
