Filament Splicer
Description
This is a 2 piece filament splicer. There is one model with a cutout for ptfe tubing and one model without. Slide both halves of the tool together. Cut both pieces of filament at an angle. Push one Piece of filament through each end of the tool so that they meet in the window. Use a lighter, candle, or match to get the ends of both pieces of filament molten. Press both pieces of filament together and quickly pull them into the larger section of the tool to cool. Slide the tool apart and remove the filament. Inspect the joint and trim off any large bumps with a razor blade. The hole in the tool without the ptfe cutout is 1.80mm, so it should allow filament to pass through the extruder without much, if any, trimming. If you print this tool in PETG you can also use acetone to join pieces of ABS or PLA. 2/21/2021 - I just finished designing this tool and am going to set one up to print tonight. with my current settings it will take about 4.5 hours to print a complete tool at 100% infill. 2/23/2021 - I adjusted the dimensions of the pieces so that they fit together easier. depending on how well your printer is calibrated they may require a small amount of filing around the edges
