Palaeodictyoptera

Palaeodictyoptera

Description

The Paleodictyoptera are an extinct order of large flying insects that lived during the Carboniferous and Permian periods. This is just a generic impression rather than any particular species. Amazingly, some fossils show preserved wing patterns. I modelled the coloration on the extant owlflies, which show similar patterns but aren't closely related. I also added tracheal gills similar to those of mayfly nymphs, even though that's pretty speculative.
